“I think that it’s going to be a really tough filing season for taxpayers,” said Julie Brinn Siegel, a former Treasury Department chief of staff. With recent federal cuts to IRS staffing and other changes, Siegel said there are preparations to make. One of them is the elimination of the IRS program to prepare your return. “Actually, piloted here in South Dakota, which was IRS-run tax filing software that people loved. 90% of people who used it said it was excellent or above average,” Siegel said.

About Julie
Julie Brinn Siegel served as the Deputy Federal Chief Operating Officer and Senior Coordinator for Management at the Office of Management and Budget, where she oversaw the implementation of key government initiatives, financial management, procurement, IT and cybersecurity, performance management, and federal workforce issues.
Before joining the OMB, Siegel served as Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen. In this role, she managed policy issues related to domestic finance, national security, and tax policy. She previously served as Senator Elizabeth Warren’s Senior Counsel for Economic Policy where she advised Senator Warren on banking, financial regulation, consumer protection, housing, tax, and labor policy. Julie has also worked in the Office of the Director and the Legal Division at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Previously, Julie served in multiple roles in the Obama-Biden Administration, including in the Office of the White House Chief of Staff, the Council of Economic Advisers, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Office of the White House Counsel. At the beginning of her legal career, Julie served as a law clerk to Judge Peter J. Messitte of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
Julie graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Law School, and lives in Washington D.C. with her husband and two sons.
